What you’ll do

CrossBoundary Energy is recruiting a full-time attorney to support its legal operations for a major energy project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The successful candidate will work closely with senior counsel and the project team to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations, manage corporate governance matters, and support the structuring and negotiation of project documentation. 

This role will involve direct engagement with government entities, local counsel, and internal teams to navigate complex corporate and regulatory environments to ensure the legal integrity of CBE’s operations in the DRC. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with DRC laws and regulations across all aspects of the project 

  • Draft, review, and negotiate corporate and project documentation, including joint venture agreements, shareholder agreements, and regulatory filings 

  • Advise internal teams on legal risks and obligations related to operating in the DRC 

  • Liaise with government authorities and, as appropriate, with external counsel to manage permitting, licensing, and regulatory approvals in the DRC 

  • Support corporate governance and entity management for CBE’s operations in the DRC 

  • Monitor legal developments in the DRC and advise on their impact to the project 

  • Maintain and improve legal templates and precedents for DRC-related documentation 

  • Support due diligence processes and respond to legal queries from project and company stakeholders 

Qualifications 

  • 5+ years’ post-admission experience in a premier law firm and/or in-house legal department focused on corporate law or regulatory compliance 

  • Experience working on infrastructure or energy projects in emerging markets, preferably in the DRC or Francophone Africa 

  • Strong understanding of local legal frameworks and government processes 

  • Law degree with strong academic credentials from an accredited university 

  • Bar admission 

  • Fluency in English and French required 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) 

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Systematic and highly organized, with personal accountability for managing multiple workstreams 

  • Effective in a fast-moving and complex environment

The ideal candidate will be based in Lubumbashi, DRC.
