What youll do
CrossBoundary is recruiting an Associate Principal to join the West Africa team. We are seeking candidates with extensive experience living and working in the region and a thorough understanding of the investment landscape.
Your primary responsibilities will be:
- Provide deal and project leadership across transaction advisory engagements, including:
- Identifying, screening and evaluating investment opportunities
- Conducting sector or geographic landscape assessments
- Identifying, engaging and building relationships with qualified regional and international investors
- Leading complex commercial due diligence and vendor due diligence assignments
- Developing and reviewing financial models investment memoranda, teasers, and client-facing recommendations
- Providing value-creation recommendations for post investment strategy
- Advising on the structuring and deployment of blended finance vehicles and providing recommendations on optimal transaction structures
- Support the firm’s business development efforts in the region by:
- Managing relationships with key CrossBoundary clients
- Performing market assessments and identifying key potential clients and partners within regional markets
- Developing strategies for using CrossBoundary services to drive value for these potential clients
- Working closely with CrossBoundary leadership on developing partnerships and pursuing new business opportunities in regional markets
- Originating transactions and projects, and growing CrossBoundary's footprint and visibility in West Africa
- Contribute to developing the West Africa team by:
- Managing investment professionals, with responsibility for hiring, capacity building and performance management
- Leading the team to results in challenging and ambiguous circumstances, fostering a culture of excellence, curiosity, and bias for action
- Serving as a coach and mentor to junior team members, supporting their professional growth and technical development
- Build CrossBoundary's brand and visibility in the region by:
- Representing CrossBoundary at key regional forums and with strategic partners
- Driving team participation at conferences and on panel discussions
- Developing thought leadership pieces and contributing to relevant industry initiatives
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:
- At least 8 years of experience in investment banking, management consulting, private equity or similar
- Candidates must hold an MBA from a reputable institution (extensive relevant experience may be accepted as equivalent)
- Experience living and working in the West Africa region
- Strong business development acumen
- Strong quantitative skills; familiar with diligence and valuation methodologies
- Familiarity and comfort with financial modeling and accounting
- Experience with high-quality slide-design and storyboarding
- Deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities businesses face in frontier markets, as well as the macro-economic trends that impact them
- Possesses tangible grit, seeks differentiation by intentionally taking self outside of comfort zone physically, culturally and intellectually
- Experience working with a range of stakeholders (including private equity firms, Development Finance Institutions, and development agencies) to support investments in high impact sectors
- Demonstrated fluency in English, both written and verbal
