What you’ll do
The Procurement Officer at CBE will oversee procurement and import processes across African countries, initially focusing on O&M needs. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance, achieving commercial excellence, and supporting the company's global clean energy impact. Candidates should have logistics or procurement experience in African markets and be proactive and passionate about driving change in emerging economies.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage African import regulations efficiently and on time
- Complete shipping documents in-house and meet line/agent requirements
- Arrange bookings, inspections, and supplier/country-specific needs promptly
- Coordinate loading with warehouse and suppliers
- Submit clearing documentation to agents quickly
- Update costing systems for accurate pricing
- Source and negotiate shipping and agent rates for export/import processes
- Liaise with suppliers to confirm shipping documents, details, and delivery
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and prices with vendors for optimal procurement outcomes
- Track purchase orders and manage inventory levels to support uninterrupted operations
- Maintain strong supplier relationships and monitor supplier performance regularly
- Oversee procurement of Operations & Maintenance (O&M) materials, equipment, and services
- Ensure timely sourcing and delivery of spare parts and consumables for maintenance activities
- Work closely with O&M teams to understand technical specifications and operational requirements
- Evaluate O&M suppliers for reliability, technical compliance, and safety standards
- Monitor O&M contract compliance, warranty terms, and service agreements
Who you are
Ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:
- At least 6 years’ experience in international cargo logistics (air, sea, road, courier), with preference for experience shipping to African countries
- Experience in international procurement processes and supplier management
- Proficient in documentation: Certificate of Origin, Bills of Lading, Import/Export Permits
- Knowledgeable in general and hazardous cargo shipping
- Computer skills: MS Office required; advanced Excel essential
- Strong English communication (verbal/written)
- Able to work independently and meet tight deadlines
- Reliable, organized, detail-oriented
- Excellent interpersonal/teamwork abilities
- Customer-focused and skilled at supplier negotiation
Location
Cape Town preferred, but can be based in Nairobi (Kenya) or Lagos (Nigeria)
