What you’ll do
CrossBoundary is recruiting for a 6-18 months contractual role to support transaction teams focused on unlocking private capital in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region based in Canberra, Australia. Depending on ability to convert business opportunities, this role can be extended to a full-time position. We are seeking candidates with 10+ years of experience working in the Australian development sector and working in the APAC market and a thorough understanding of the investment landscape.

As a consultant, you will be responsible for business development with the Australian government, specifically with DFAT and its implementing partners.

Your primary responsibilities would be: 
  • Lead strategic business development and origination across priority markets and sectors, with accountability for shaping and securing government- and donor-funded mandates (including DFAT), from early concept development through contracting.
  • Serve as a senior relationship manager for key clients and partners, providing strategic input into program and platform design, guiding deal structuring, and ensuring high-quality execution, reporting, and repeat engagements.
  • Maintain proactive market coverage across private investors, development finance institutions, corporates (from SMEs to multinationals), and ecosystem partners to identify and originate new advisory, transaction, and blended-finance opportunities.
  • Build and manage a robust origination pipeline across buy-side, sell-side, and platform advisory mandates, working cross-functionally to convert relationships and ideas into commercially and developmentally strong engagements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred, ideally in Business Administration, Finance or other relevant advanced degree 
  • 10+ years of experience in the development sector, with strong relationships with DFAT and its managing contractors and in the Australian government
  • Demonstrated ability to project manage complex projects, strategic advisory engagements, and team members
  • Experience sourcing, advising on, and closing transactions in emerging markets in the development sector is a plus
  • The following experiences will be regarded favourably: 
    • Experience taking a projects from origination to financial close in emerging or frontier markets 
    • Experience in strategic advisory engagements with public and private sector stakeholders (e.g. roadmaps, stakeholder engagements, and capital maps)
